An epithelial-mesenchymal interaction is known to trigger tooth germ development. Understanding this process is important for establishing the technique that permits teeth regeneration. Here we report our attempts to develop analytical platforms useful for studying epithelial-mesenchymal interactions in spatially-controlled manners. A poly(dimethylsiloxane) stamp with microfluidics was used to immobilize two antibodies against specific surface markers for epithelial and mesenchymal cells in site-addressable manners on a single substrate. Our results showed that the substrate enabled to position epithelial and mesenchymal cells at two distinct regions with a clear border, providing an initial condition rational for further study on dynamic cellular evolution.
