Abstract

Reminiscence has been shown to be one of the non-drug therapies effective in preventing and treatment of dementia. Our assumption is that familiar person's voice is more effective rather than unfamiliar person's voice, during reminiscence therapy on elderly person with dementia. In this study, to investigate the relation between reminiscence and characteristics of voice, we conducted demonstration experiment against three elderly people who lives in special elderly nursing home. As the result, it is not confirmed that familiar person's voice is more effective in recovering the memory. However, we also found that it can cause more smile and increasing motivation of speaking. It indicate the possibility that familiar person's voice might promoting the activation of the brain.
