- S041014 Observation of Pore Structures of Porous Metals Fabricated by Friction Powder Compaction Process

Open-cell porous cupper (Cu) was fabricated by friction powder compaction (FPC) process, which requires no external heat sources. In this process, compacting of starting materials which was the powder mixture of Cu powder and sodium chloride (NaCl) as spacer particle was conducted only by rotating tool plunged into the mixture. It is concerned that pore structures of the porous Cu fabricated by FPC had possibility that they unevenly distributed and deformed because of the vibration and sharing force during FPC process. In this study, pore structures of fabricated porous Cu were nondestructively observed by X-ray computed tomography (CT) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). In addition, the compressive properties of obtained porous Cu were investigated.
