Abstract
This paper illustrates development of a compact bending fatigue test rig for plastic gears, which can be embedded on a Raman spectroscopic analyzer. It is important to evaluate the health of plastic gears, which have cyclic load. As a result of comparison of pre- and post-endurance test of plastic gears by Raman spectroscopic analysis, we could obtain changes of Raman shift. This means that it is possible to detect the change on the surface of plastic gear before failure. However, nowadays the endurance test and Raman spectroscopic analysis can not be carried out simultaneously, in addition, the load control on a tooth of gear is not easy in the rotational endurance test. Therefore, quantitative assessment of the change of Raman shift with respect to load and with respect to fatigue phenomenon has been unclear. Then, in this study, we have been developing the compact bending fatigue test rig, which can be installed on the Raman spectroscopic analyzer. This paper describes the concept and specification of the fatigue test rig.
