- S142011 On-Machine Measurement Based on Copying Principle Using Laser Displacement Sensor

In order to achieve high precision and high productivity in machining operation, re-machining or re-finishing operation to compensate machinning error is effective. However, a practical on-machine measurement, in which a production lead time and measurement time can be reduced, is required to perform effective re-machining operation. In this paper, an on-machine measurement based on copying principle using a laser displacement sensor is proposed. In this measurement method, a laser displacement sensor is controlled to follow the 3D surface model corresponding to the machind surface based on copying principle. A series of destination points to instruct measuring points are culculated automatically and iteratively to scan the measurement area. On-machine measurement of a precice sphere was carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method. The diameter of this sphere estimated from the measurement data has good agreement with the true diameter. The proposed method can be applied pratically for on-machine measurement of free form surface. Also, on-machine measurement of the machined sphere was performed to eveluated the measurement accuracy. The measurement accuracy was lower than one measured by the coordinate measuring machine, but the measurement accuracy was acceptable to measure the machined shape on macnine tools.
