- J1910101 Conceptual Study of Lightweight Structures for Concentrator Photovoltaic System

To realize high power density of concentrator photovoltaic system, we investigate the concentration efficiency of a set of spatially arranged reflectors. The considered reflectors are metal-coated thin films which are supported by three-dimensional skeletons such as tensegrity structures. By optimizing the architecture considering its structural and power generating performances, the photovoltaic system can be designed along with the PV cell selection. Optical analyses were conducted for tubular reflectors with and without a twist whose internal faces are used for light reflection. Numerical results showed that the projection area to the incident light and the height of the tubular reflectors severely affected the concentration efficiency. And a model with a small twist in a certain shape could accept larger amount of incident light than a model without the twist even when the inclination angle of the light is slightly varied.
