On the low frequency vibration drilling, cutting point temperature is suppressed and the tool life is extended. However the particular mechanisms are not clarified. Effective cutting parameter for drilling difficult-to-cut materials at high efficiency can be set if the mechanism is understood well. With considering actual cutting time, it is possible to rate the matter of intermittent cutting during the low frequency vibration. Actual cutting time is dependent on the vibration frequency and the tool rotational speed. In this study, the cutting heats at cutting point of the tool were calculated based on the orthogonal cutting data. Then unsteady heat transfer analysis within the drill was conducted. Also, simulation results and experiment results were compared for checking the validness.
