Abstract

Fabrication of stainless steel microtubes by multi-pass dieless drawing process is studied experimentally. Materials used in this experiment are SUS304 tubes with outer diameter of 500μm and thickness of 130, 100and 25μm. Effect of heating temperature and tube thickness on drawing limit is investigated in 1-Pass dieless drawing to determine suitable conditions for fabrication of microtubes. Furthermore, Multi-Pass dieless drawing is conducted to compare with 1-Pass dieless drawing for fabrication of SUS304 microtube. As a result, it is found that the largest reduction in area is obtained in 900〜980℃, and the more thickness increases, the more drawing limit increases in 1-Pass dieless drawing. In addition, it is found that removing surface roughness by polishing of tube surface increases drawing limit in multi-pass dieless drawing. Consequently, it is supposed that removing tube surface is effective for fabrication of stainless steel microtubes in multi-pass dieless drawing process.
