We carried out monaural horizontal sound localization experiments with listeners who wore earplugs at one ear in head still and head movement conditions. Sound insulation of earplugs were estimated by measuring absolute threshold of hearing as well as by measuring sound pressure level in the outer ear canal with listeners' ears using a probe microphone or with an artificial ear. Normal hearing listeners put an earplug in one ear localized white noises of which A-weighted sound pressure level was set at 40 dB. In the head still condition, localizations were biased toward the opened ear side. In the head movement condition, on the other hand, some sound images stayed still some flied around a head according to the head rotation, monaural sound localization was very difficult unlike the binaural case.
