Abstract

In order to reduce the response of the base-isolated structure by the earthquake ground motion, this paper proposes base-isolated structure using the mechanism with lever and attached weight at point of action of lever, installed horizontally in the base-isolated layer. It is a type of mass dampers and can reduce vibration of the superstructure by vibrating itself in the case of resonance. In addition, by connecting the power point of the lever device to the superstructure and its fulcrum to the ground, it is possible to generate the large effect of additional mass by vibrating the weight that is attached to its point of action. And through time history response analysis using earthquake ground motions, the effect of lever device on the responses and the effectiveness of the lever device are examined by comparing the response of the base-isolated structure with TMD. As the result, in order to reduce the response of the base-isolated structure by the long-period earthquake motion, the mass ratio of mass dampers and structure is required about 10%. But using lever device, the mass ratio is expanded to 2th power of the lever ratio. So it is shown that the mass ratio of less than 1% is able to get the large effect of vibration suppression.
