Abstract

In order to verify the effects of teachers' creating a teaching portfolio in 2008 and clarify the continuity of these effects, a questionnaire survey was administered in August 2012 to 349 teachers who had previously created teaching portfolios, and the results were investigated in detail. Among the 12 items that were considered to represent the effects of creating a teaching portfolio, the greatest continuous effect was observed for "introspective view," "bird's eye view," four items of "clarity of philosophy," and "consistency of philosophy and practice." These effects revealed no differences between college of technology and university faculty. On the other hand, for the two items representing "changing the contents of practice" and "quality of life as a teacher," the difference between the average responses of the college of technology and university faculty was significant at the 5% level. In addition, in a comparison of the responses regarding "behavior" in education and the "change of students" given before and after creating a teaching portfolio, the difference between the average responses of the college of technology and university faculty was significant at the 5% level. These results, the higher freedom of university faculty compared to college of technology faculty in creating a teaching portfolio and the positively capture the responsibility of education, indicate that teachers have to re-recognize the importance of creating teaching portfolios.
