Abstract

Recently, biomass attract much attention as renewable energy resource. Bio-coke, hereinafter called BIC, is one of the solid biomass fuel which is made from woody or herbaceous biomass through heating and compressing. BIC is expected to be an alternative of coal coke and high energy density solid fuel because it has high hardness and high density. In the present study, the effect of the molding condition of BIC, whose materials are green tea and cypress, on the combustion property is examined. The experimental results show that the fundamental combustion property is similar to result of TG/DTA curves of each material and, however, temperature, pressure and water content at the production of BIC affect the ignition delay, flaming duration and char combustion period. As the molding temperature increases, ignition delay increases and flaming duration decreases, and as the water content of material increases, the ignition delay increases. It is supposed that the effects are related to the density and porosity of BICs.
