Abstract

Oil film interferometry (OFI) is used for skin friction measurement of boundary layer flow on flat plate or channel, and the OFI is quantitative and high accurate technique for it. In this study, measurement of skin friction on an airfoil surface under the lifting condition by using the OFI is performed. Reynolds number of the airfoil flow is 8×10^4. Silicon oil of 50CS and sodium lamp are used for Fizeau fringes formation. The 300 images with time interval snap shot in 1 to 6 seconds depending on velocity by digital camera are acquired for the calculation of thickness of oil film and transfer velocity on surface of it. Oil viscosity calibration with viscometer is carried out in temperature of 20 to 40 degrees C. Measured local skin friction data is compared to large eddy simulation results by Miyazawa et al.
