Abstract

Introduction.-The destructive Tango earthquake, which occurred in the coast of the Sea of Japan on March 7, 1927, at 18h 27m was the most appalling catastrophe experienced in this country since the great Kwanto earthquake of 1923. It caused much greater loss of lives and property than in the case of the Tazima earthquake, which took place on May 23, 1925, at the place about 18 kms. to the west of the recent one.
