- Effects of Forms of Presentation and Summary on the Understanding of Learning Materials

In this study, we investigated the effects of the form of presentation and the form of summarizing of learning materials on comprehension. For the forms of presentation, we used manga and explanatory text; for the forms of summarizing, we used illustration and itemization. The four conditions for the experiment were the combinations of manga and illustration, manga and itemization, explanatory text and diagram, and explanatory text and itemization. The tasks were to read and summarize the presented materials, and to take a comprehension test. Comparison of the correct response rates for the comprehension test for the experimental conditions revealed that scores were significantly lower for the manga and diagram condition than for the other conditions.
