Abstract

The discrepancy between MLD (mathematical learning disabilities) and LA (low achievement) andvisual-spatial perception ability were investigated and mathematics ability. In this study, MathematicsTest and Rey (Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure) were implemental for a group of 381 children (second,third, fourth, fifth, sixth grade) who attended in general education setting. The results showed that thescores of MLD were lower than LA the scores of Rey, and especially the scores of the strategy to visualconstruct were low. Moreover the results showed the same tendency about children whose scores wereboth low and high in Rey. That is to say, the discrepancy between MLD and LA may be associated withvisual-spatial perception ability. But the results did not show the same about all children. The moredetailed study should be needed. There were some relations about mathematics ability and visualspatialperception ability between MLD and LA, but the relations were not so tide. Visual-spatialperception ability of Rey may not necessarily indicate the mathematics abilities. Perhaps visual-spatialperception scores of Rey may be limited under the some conditions.
