The training course for volunteer Japanese Language teachers at Mie University, including 20 lectures and 13 practical training classes, was conducted by the Agency for Cultural Affairs from October 2007 to March 2008. The focus of this study was the process in which participant with various experiences as volunteer teachers developed their own classes. This process included analyzing the development methods of classes, and teaching methods following a reflective approach through observation of other participants' classes. Peer activities were performed with the aim of improving classes by considering individual problems as their own and exchanging ideas and advice regarding teaching policy and classes. After analyzing reports about practical training, materials on the reflective approach, and teaching policies, it is suggested that practical training for volunteer Japanese language teachers is important because not only teaching techniques, but also mental support can be provided to the participants.
