Along with the rising of the "education on patriotism" in 1992, the term and theory of "the descendants of Yandi 炎帝 and Huangdi 黄帝" was reiterated as an important discourse. The root of this term can be traced back to the Chinese nationalism movement at the beginning of the 20th century, but with the enthusiasm on "Yandi and Huangdi", in recent years, it also induced there evaluation of "Chiyou 蛍尤" in the history as counter part of "Yandi and Huangdi ", and exploded dissident and opposition among experts of sociology from "Miaozu 苗族", a minor ethnic group in southern China. Focusing on the study and research by above sociologists and anthropologists of "Miao" society, the whole process of the upsurge of "Chiyou" in the "Miao" society after 1995 is comprehensively reviewed and analyzed inthis thesis. And two parts are introduced as cores of this process, namely the building up of "Chiyou" as the common ancestor of "Miao" society, and the efforts to redress and restore the status of "Chiyou" in history as ancestor of the " ChineseNation". Through reviewing the above phenomena, this thesis introduces the historical background and connotation of the two methodologies represented by the two discoures of "the Chinese nation" and "the descendants of YandiandHuangdi", and makes an initial analys is on their contradictions.
