Abstract

In this paper, we discuss the case study of mathematics education in the Super Science High schools (SSH) by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in Apri1 2005. The SSH school aims to foster students' human assets with distinct skills in science and technology who will continue to learn even after graduating from school which is a lifelong education. It is usually difficult to implement mathematics education at the SSH school in comparison to science education due to the absence of a direct method to enhance skills of gifted students in mathematics. So we examined mathematics education in these schools. As a result, we obtain certain points of view in implementing mathematics education and tasks as follows: 1. Teachers' awareness of teaching and learning processes to promote students' mathematics ability for SSH schools is very important; 2. In lesson planning, teachers' devise of ideas and processes focusing on mathematics literacy is important; 3. In the teaching and learning processes, teachers teach mathematics through mathematics activities; and 4. For highly gifted students, science club and discussion in small groups is very important. We have studied the SSH project for five years, unfortunately we still have not found good evidence of the system, contents and methods to promote students to 'Super Mathematics Students', especially, the methods using ICT in it. In this matter we will continuously research on this project.
