Since 2001, Nagoya University Library Studies, which has taken over the task of organizing historical documents handed down from the house of Takagi, retainer to the Shogun, has invested its efforts into investigating documents originating in the Kiso Three Rivers (Kisosansen) estuary region, to achieve not only an inventory of those documents, but advanced applications as well. As a result, in addition to documents that have been scattered and lost from the house of Takagi since the modern era, we have clarified the existence of documents that have been divided between the house of Takagi and regional society from the stage of current use of those documents in the modern world. For example, documents from the house of Hibi, which are examined in this paper, reexamine the Takagi house’ s role in flood control and monitoring, from the perspective of a regional resident. Documents from the house of Kodera reexamine historical documents originating from the house of Takagi, which was the head of the household, from the perspective of a retainer. The Kodera house also stored documents that had been disposed of by the house of Takagi. Related documents thus offer many contents that help to trace the way in which documents from the head household were managed. By clarifying the way in which documents from the house of Takagi were divided between that household and the regional community, we have achieved an overview of these documents for the first time.
