Abstract

The purpose of this study is to clarify the essential principle of the class that leads students to understand mathematics contents, to improve their mathematics abilities, and to enhance positive impression to mathematics. We focus on the process of student's activities to find and explain. At first, we analyzed some previous studies. Next, we planned the experiment class, and executed it in the elementary school. As a result, it was clarified that the following four points are important to compose the class. (1) Demonstrating the contents that student should find in the class. (2) To develop the problem that student can find by themselves. (3) Preparation of tools and environment for students to have their own idea. (4) Supporting students to connect one student's explanation to another student's activities. The result of the experiment class and the post test showed that emphasizing the process of student's activities to find and explain is effective to the understanding of mathematics contents, the fostering of mathematics abilities, and to improve the affect of mathematics.
