The writer describes and discusses here the stratigraphy of Ojika Peninsula, Miyagi Prefecture, northeast Japan. The rocks of this area consist of Triassic,Jurassic, and Cretaceous systems and are divided into following formations in descending order : Cretaceous group Yamadori formation Augite andesite and its tuffs and breccias - Unconformity - Ayukawa formation 450m - Arkose sandstone and black shale, yielding Lower Cretaceous pelecypods and plant fossils. - Disconformity - Jurassic Ojika group Kukunari fomation 700m Black shale and sandy shale. No fossils. Makinosaki formation 1400m Coarse arkose sandstone and conglomerate with intercalated thin black shale. Promyophorella orientalis from this formation indicates Kimmeridgian or Tithonian in age. Kozumitoge formation 500m Black shale and sandy shale, yielding Oxfordian to Kimmeridgian genera of ammonites. Oginohama formation 1000m Sandstone and alternation of sandstone and black shale.
