As various individuals and organizations have disseminated information on their Web pages, it is considered that various social events and changes have been mapped onto the Web. It is said that billions of Web pages now exist on the Web. Therefore, it might be possible to accurately know the events and changes of society if we mine or serch the Web. The authors have investigated Web community analysis, revealing that Web structure mining could be a new and useful social survey method. In addition, we have been developing the SERPWatcher, which could also be considered as a new social survey method from the standpoint that SERP (search engine results page) and its Web page ranking system might be able to intensively reflect phenomena of the real world. We believe that Web mining and the SERPWatcher are new social survey methods which are totally different from traditional methods such as questionnaires or interviews.
