In this study, we aimed to reveal the actual situation with regard to environmental awareness among university students and aspiring teachers involved in woodworking. First, we examined an awareness questionnaire in order to analyze environmental awareness among university students. The questions were created using the answers from open-ended surveys conducted in woodworking classrooms at universities and leading research institutes. The study’s attitude survey included factor analysis of five factors. The first factor was “woodworking as a motivating factor for environmental awareness”. The second factor was “environmental awareness regarding plant growth.” The third factor was “interest in woodworking.” The fourth factor was “environmental awareness regarding the efficient use of resources.” The fifth factor was “awareness of environmental activities in everyday life.” Furthermore, we examined the transformation of environmental awareness during the woodworking experience using a questionnaire. We analyzed the transformation of university students’ environmental awareness by having them perform woodworking activities and testing their awareness with a questionnaire both before and afterward. Our results showed that woodworking experiences can result in an improvement in environmental awareness. Furthermore, it was revealed that the third factor, “interest in woodworking”, was more favorably rated than the other factors.
