Abstract

Natural Resource- based Economies Project and The Asahi Shimbun Company conducted questionnaire survey of all 1741 municipalities nationwide to find out the state of renewable energy use on the municipal level. Based on the results of questionnaire survey, this paper introduces the characteristics and problems of renewable energy use in prefectures. We clarify the regional differences about what kind of initiatives municipalities are implementing, what challenges they face, and what policy responses they desire to help overcome those challenges. Using these findings, we need to analyze further for accomplishing locally initiated energy transition.
