Abstract

The tests on the reasoning and knowledge application skills required in solving the problems in science have been administered to students at 10th to 12th grades at two super science high schools, so called SSH. A total of 568 students were involved in this second survey in 2013. Based on the similarities among two studies, the results could be summarized as follows : (1) Performance on problem solving was significantly improved between 11th and 12th grades in "risuuka" classes. Thus, developing the reasoning and knowledge application skills could be possible in super science high school education, so that the future excellent scientists and engineers should be furnished as innovative manpower to cope with the knowledge based society. (2) On the other hand, any significant correlation was not found between performance on problem solving and academic grade point on the super science subjects in "risuuka" classes. Thus, a theoretical hypothesis should be further tested and verified, if developing the reasoning and knowledge application skills could be possible by means of doing science or not.
