本研究は,『イングランドにおけるフットボール報道に関する史的研究(I)─1888年“Athletic News"紙の一面記事にみるFootball League報道を中心に─』に続く第II報である。第I報では,Athletic News紙の史料価値と一面記事を扱う価値について説明した上で,1各スポーツ種目別紙面占有率を対象期間全体(1888年3月6日から1889年1月28日)と月毎で明らかにし,2Football Leagueが形成され,実施されていく過程の報道実態を明らかにし,3Athletic News紙がFootball Leagueを強く支援する報道媒体であったことを明らかにした。それに続く今回の第II報では,1888年のAthletic News紙一面記事にみるフットボール界における収入と支出に関する報道実態を,1大会・試合,2各クラブ,3各協会の3つの項目に分けて明らかにしていく。予定する第III報では,Football League設立期(1888-89シーズン)前後,すなわち1887-88シーズン,1888-89シーズン,1889-90シーズンに跨るフットボール報道の実態を比較するため,その比較要素の1つとして,今回の第II報ではフットボール界における収入・支出に関わる報道を取り上げることにする。

The purpose of this study is to analyze the actual situation of the press about income and expenses of football competitions & fixtures, clubs and associations in England through each first page of “Athletic News" in 1888. This is the continued study from the previous report with the same title: “A Historical Research on the Coverage of Association Football in England (I)" (Memoirs of Osaka Kyoiku University, Ser.IV., Vol.63-1. pp.55-64., 2014.9.) Especially, the purpose of the present study is to examine the news about balance for football world on the first page of Athletic News in 1888. The finding and discussions on the following topics are presented in this paper: 1. Reported actual situation of balance for competitions & fixtures in each category 2. Reported actual situation of balance for clubs in each category 3. Reported actual situation of balance for local associations
