Abstract

This paper examined the interaction between the surrounding environment and human activities and lifestyles based on official records of the Nanao, located in the central part of Noto peninsula in Ishikawa prefecture, Japan. We reviewed official municipal history books titled Nanao Shishi and its next version of Shinsyu Nanao Shishi, to review the historical process of changes in agriculture and forestry in Nanao city. By reviewing these official records, we analyzed the relationships between regional environment and human activities, including agriculture and forestry. Based on these evidences, we suggested implications for current policies and local governances for sustainable agriculture and forestry at local scales.
