抄録

The purpose of this study was to explore the properties of word association networks （chainlink） in Russian language. In the first and the second sections of the study I introduced some basic notions of graph theory, comparing an ideal tree diagram with the real association networks. In the third section, I demonstrated analysis of word networks of root words as быть“to be”, рука“a hand” and хороший“good”. These networks have 5 or 8 thousands of words （as vertices） and 8 or 16 thousands of association relations （as edges）. In this study the main stress falls on the explanation of these big networks. I concluded that they have two main properties: small-worldness and scale-freeness.
