Abstract:A sightseeing guidebook of the latter part of Edo Period, Yamato Meisho Zue , is a book with inserted pictures edited by Akisato Ritou , and was a best seller at that time. The editor was interested in the ‘sites of interest’ which was defined by waka poetries . It is thought that the book was edited in the concept that the readers would refer to this book when they try to make and recite their waka and haikai poetries at those sites. The readers of the book are supposed to have been literary figures, and it is noted that they were enjoying waka as cultivation. The use of classic literature as cultural education in the literature of Edo Period such as in Yamato Meisho Zue is highly suggestive when we discuss about today’s classic literature education and cultivation.
