Abstract

The purpose of the study was to reexamine the experiment of precognitive avoidance of negative stimuli (Bem,2011). Although, several researchers have attempted to replicate the results of Bem’s study, they have had inconsistent results. Galak, Leboueuf, Nelson&Simmons(2012) criticized that the result of Bem’s study was derived from large sample size and false rejection of null hypothesis. Therefore, we reexamined Bem’s study by assembling adequate number of participants. In addition, because the degree of believing in psi is said to have effects on precognitive ability (sheep-goat effect(Schmeidler,1945)), we me asured the score of Paranormal　Belief Scale (Nakajima, Sato & Watanabe, 1993) and compared the performance of participants who have different level of believing in psi. Our results did not match those reported by Bem; thus, we were not able to replicate the 2011 precognitive ability study.
