In this paper, we examine the discourse structures of problem solving and the interactional processes in the data of "direction-giving", which are collected by conducting a task-oriented experiment. The subjects or participants are pairs of native Japanese speakers both and non-native and native Japanese speakers. These subjects are required to resolve the problem that is set as a trap in the map (which forms the material for the experiment) using discourse. First, we examine the basic discourse structures and the conversational sequences that are repeated several times in the data. Based on this consideration, especially focusing on the phase leading to the proposal of a solution, we examine the differences in the types of proposal, the contents targeted for negotiation, and the real processes of interaction in which the proposal heads for a solution finally.
