研究の概要(和文)：本研究では、在日外国人増加から在日外国人コミュニティーの形成を踏まえた上で、持続可能な多文化共生について、在日インド人人口が急増した江戸川区西葛西を事例に調査をした。研究では西葛西においてコミュニティーの核となっている3 人と、西葛西の住民5人に対しインタビュー調査を行い、KJ 法に基づいて図式化をして分析した。その結果、西葛西では区の政策に頼らず、江戸川インド人会が中心となって「食事」「本国の情報を得る手段」「インターナショナルスクール」「宗教施設」等、必要なものを整備して在日インド人コミュニティーが広がった経緯が確認できた。現在では、「同胞の存在による安心感」「会社勤めで安定した収入がある事」などから、西葛西は在日インド人にとって住みやすい都市となっている事が分かった。日本人にとっても在日インド人は「地域のルールを守っている事」等から、トラブルも少なく、両者に良好な関係が存在する。一方で、課題については、次の3つが存在する事が分かった。①従来の西葛西における多文化共生では、「日本人＋在日インド人」という構図で考えられていたが、「日本人＋多国籍」という視点も求められる。②グローバルな都市として発展するためには、自治体における多文化共生の推進や、コミュニティー形成を行う場づくりも求められる。③地域には、在日外国人コミュニティーを創出する場が求められ、最近では地域に存在する宗教施設もそのような役割を果たす可能性がある。日本の地域社会では、江戸川区西葛西同様に在日外国人自身が増加し、彼らの出身も多国籍化している。江戸川区西葛西において持続可能な多文化共生が実現されれば、今後そのような地域において、多文化共生のモデルとなる可能性がある。

研究の概要(英文)：This is a study on the sustainability of foreignresidents in Japan's multicultural symbiosis in local society. The purpose of this study is to understand the sustainability of foreign residentsin Japan's multicultural symbiosis in local society, focusing on the Indian people living in Nishikasai area. First, I studied of the history about foreign residents in Japan. Second, I have surveyed 3 core members of community. In addition, I have surveyed 5 persons living in Nishikasai. From these interviews, Nishikasai is the place that Japanese and foreign residents in Japan feel easy. However, there are 3 problems. The findings are following: 1) Before, Nishikasai was a city for an Indian. But recently, Nishikasai needs not only Indian town but also grobal town. 2) To develop a global city, local government needs "promotion of culture symbiosis" 3) A local community needs an open space. For example, religion facilities become the open space. Foreign residents in Japan will increase all on Japan. Nishikasai would be a model of symbiosis of multicultural.
