Abstract

Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines and New Zealand in west circum-Pacific mobile belt have 219 rivers with alluvial fans of larger than 2km2 among 1,052 drainage basins of areas larger than100km2. By use of discriminant analysis, the dominant factors for the distribution of alluvial fan were determined to be the sedimentary environment, climatic type, relative relief indicating uplift rate among nine factors, that is drainage basin area, intermontane basin area, relief ratio, geology of drainage basin, existence of volcano, climatic type, sedimentary environment, relative relief, and existence of fault.
