Abstract

This article reviews recent studies of bronze coin integration at the beginning of earlymodern Japan, with a particular focus on studies of the late 16th and early 17th centuries. The primary issue during this period of time was the emergence of bita, a category of bronze coin that appeared during the late 16th century and was designated as standard coin by the Edo Shogunate.
