Abstract

Sea ice plays an important role in Earthʼs climate system. Ice cores may reconstruct past sea ice conditions. Here I review the advances that have been made in using chemical tracers such as sodium ion, methanesulfonate ion, and bromine preserved in ice cores to determine past changes in sea ice cover around Antarctica and Greenland.
