Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to clarify the difference in choice of Japanese compound particles “ni tsuite”, “ni taishite”, “ni totte” between Japanese native speakers and Chinese advanced and intermediate level learners of Japanese. Native Japanese speakers have a tendency to choose these three compound particles like (1)–(4), but Chinese learners of Japanese have another tendency in particle choice. (1)Watashi wa jiken no shinsou ni {tsuite / *taishite / *totte} karngaeta. (2)Watashi wa jiken no shinsou ni {tsuite / taishite / *totte} gimon wo motta. (3)Watashi wa jiken no shinsou ni {tsuite / taishite / *totte} kyoumi ga atta. (4)Kare no syougen wa jiken no shinsou ni {?tsuite / *taishite / totte} karngaeta. In this paper we argue about the factor of error of compound particle choice made by Chinese learner of Japanese. The results of this study may be useful when compiling dictionaries and grammar books as well as Japanese language teaching.
