Abstract

Internships have long been considered an effective educational practice and many surveys have demonstrated their effects on student development. The purpose of this report is to examine students' half-year development by following up with an interview survey and clarifying the results through student development theory. This survey revealed development in both the behavioral and mind aspects related to the internship experience that bridged what students had learned to their daily academic learning, thus forming a growth mindset. The practical principles drawn from these results are: 1) specific goal-setting, reflection and feedback at the level of daily behavior, 2) the support for achieving stretch goals, and 3) whole program design intending to bridge the internship experience to the daily academic experience.
