Purpose: A survey was conducted to evaluate which leisure activities promote social network building for seniors in the community. Method: 71 participants (15 men, 74.3±8.4years old and 56 women 74.0±6.6 years old) were interviewed to gather information. The key question was, "What do you usually do in your free time?". The interviews were held over a four week period. The activity, the frequency, and the location were common elements discussed in the interview. The KJ method was used to make the data manageable and to establish category. Results: 88 activities were classified into five categories: 18 sports, 29 activities related to daily life, 6 working activities, 25 hobby and educational activities, and 10 irregular events. Conclusion: Included in all five categories were leisure activities which promote senior social networking. These activities have six common points: 1)having motivation or purpose and satisfaction, 2) building causal relationships, 3) stimulation to continue activity (place, people, items etc.), 4) activity participation at ones pace, 5) activities location is at a convenient distance, 6) people chose to do the activities without pressure or obligation. This indicated that these activities contribute to the building of social capital, by sharing social relationships in the community.
