Abstract

This paper attempts to consider the history of Japan's modernization and the relationship with “seken-theory”. It was demonstrated that the sense of "place" continuing from the late Edo period, so-called "seken", remained at least until the late Meiji period. And the future direction of "seken" research was also clarified through this consideration result. For a Japanese who does not have monotheism, such as the West, human relations are the ones that acknowledge the self, and when they touch other people and new values who have never met before, their awareness and anxiety It is to return to "seken" by cause. That is one of the characteristics of the Japanese.
