The purpose of this study was to develop learning materials and practice lessons for inquiry learning in the “Formation of and Changes in the Earth”in order to examine strategies for learning about natural disasters (earth-quakes) in junior high schools stricken by the Kumamoto Earthquake. As a result of practical study, the following were obtained; 1. Students used their knowledge they learned to analyze experimental results and interpret the materials. 2. Many students are able to explain the formation of the local earth from a historical perspective. 3. Through inquiry learning, students were able to think of earthquakes alongside other geological phenomena or from a historical perspective.
