Abstract

The purpose of this study is to seek out the vocabulary Japanese senior high school students find difficult to use to express themselves and to compile a Japanese-English parallel corpus. In order to compile the corpora, whose softwareisEasyConc.xlsm for Windows and Easy Conc.fmp12 for iOS, second grade senior high school students were asked to write the expressions they wanted to use in speaking tests but could not in Japanese. Later, students’ questions are translated into simple English by the Japanese teacher of English and the native speaker of English. The result was that the majority of words that students wanted to use were included within 2000 high-frequency words. If teachers make use of EasyConc.xlsm to make worksheets for their English classes, then I believe that teachers can help students improve their speaking skills.
