Abstract

type:Article

Relativistic radiative shock waves are examined under the equilibrium diffusion approximation and the Eddington one in the optically thick regime. Although there are many studies relating to relativistic radiative shocks under various assumptions and approximations, we supplement the previous studies within the astrophysical context, e.g. using the relativistic polytropic equation of state. We then derive the overall jump conditions for the relativistic radiative shocks for both the gas- and radiation-pressure-dominated cases. We further solve the structure of the radiative precursor. The solutions are quite fundamentals in relativistic radiative shock problems, and should be developed in various aspects.
