Abstract

研究目的は,乳児期にある孫を持つ祖父母の孫育児支援に対するニーズを明らかすることであった。孫の出産を控えたまたは1歳未満の孫育児に参加している祖父母11名に対し,これまでに受けた孫育児支援の実際や孫育児支援に望むことに関する半構成的面接を行い,孫育児に関する思いと孫育児支援に対するニーズ及び孫育児支援に対する反応に関連する文脈を抽出し,サブカテゴリー,カテゴリーを形成した。抽出されたコードは178であり,34のサブカテゴリーを経て,孫育児に関する思い6,孫育児支援に対するニーズ4,孫育児支援に対する反応1の,計11のカテゴリーに集約された。カテゴリーは,【孫育児を励みにする】,【育児する親を気遣う】,【育児する親を支える】,【経験を基に孫育児の方法を決定する】,【加齢に伴う身体的・精神的負担がある】,【孫育児に関する情報や技術を求める】,【他の祖父母の話を聞きたい】,【情報を基に孫育児の方法を決定する】等であった。乳児期にある孫を持つ祖父母は,育児に関する新しい情報を得られる場,他の祖父母との情報交換の場を求めており,孫育児に参加したいという思いや,孫育児を励みにしていることがその背景にある。また,若い親たちの育児を支える支援者として機能したいと望んでおり,若い親たちとの関係性を良好に保つことが,孫育児に関する新しい情報を求める理由のひとつになっている。祖父母たちは,新しい情報を自己の育児経験を基に吟味して,得られた情報の取捨選択をしており,そのプロセスにおいて,自分と同様の立場にある祖父母との交流が,孫育児方法の決定を促進していると考えられる。

The purpose of this study was to clarify grandparents' needs while caring for grandchildren with a focus on the infancy period. The study participants were 11 grandparents who were either expecting the birth of a grandchild or actively participating in the care of a grandchild under 1 year of age. Grandparents were asked to relate their experiences with and opinions of available support programs in semi-structured interviews. Responses were coded and those relevant to the grandparents' needs with respect to caring for their grandchildren were extracted and grouped into subcategories and categories. A total of 178 coded responses were grouped into 34 subcategories and into eleven categories, including "finding ways to find fulfillment in caring grandchildren", "guidance on how to support their adult children as parents", "guidance on decision-making about how to care for grandchildren based on their own parenting", "ways to cope with physical and psychological burden with respect to aging", "information and skills improvement with regard to caring for infant grandchildren", "opportunities to communicate with other grandparents", and "guidance on decision-making about how to care for grandchildren based on available information". The needs most expressed by grandparents caring for infant grandchildren were opportunities to obtain current information on child-rearing and to communicate with other grandparents. Grandparents wished to be involved in and to receive encouragement from caring for their grandchildren. The grandparents also wished to be supportive of their grandchildren's parents and, therefore, sought out new information about child-rearing and how to maintain good relationships with the parents. The grandparents used their own parenting experiences when adapting new information about child-rearing, and communication with other grandparents was considered to promote decision-making about how to participate in the childcare of their grandchildren.
