Abstract

This paper describes the development of new ground improvement materials, based on the formation of ettringite, for basanite using waste and recycled materials. For this purpose, recycled basanite was mixed with coal ash, blast furnace slag and furnace cement type-B in different proportions to obtain the optimal production for ettringite based on their chemical responses. The unconfined compressive strength of cement-stabilized soil increases with increasing the suggested composite recycled materials addition ratio. Based on the observation of internal structure using a scanning electron microscope (SEM), ettringite occurrence is related to the strength increase of cement-stabilized soil. Well-developed ettringite could be seen in the case of higher composite recycled materials addition ratios.
