Abstract

In order to preserve frangible historical ink paintings, it is necessary to create the duplication of the paintings. In this paper, we focus on transmittance as well as reflectance of the paintings to reproduce its appearance. We propose a method to reproduce both optical properties of ink paintings simultaneously by combining multiple sheets of printed paper. First, we acquire the relationship between printed ink patterns and the optical properties and store the relation as a look-up-table. Then, combining printed multiple papers with acquired ink pattern according to the look-up-table, we realize a method to create a photo-realistic duplication.
