Three dimensional motion analysis of flapping membrane using synchronized stroboscopic photography system

Abstract

We have developed a “synchronized continuous stroboscopic photography system” and successfully taken photographs of flapping wings using two digital cameras. We have also succeed in calculating 3-dimensional coordinate values using DLT (direct linear transformation) method from 2-dimensional coordinate values, which were taken by commercially available two digital cameras. The standard deviation of the measurement was 0.025[mm], which is small enough for the purpose of the aerodynamic analysis of the flapping membrane of micro air vehicles.
