We studied the vocational handicaps of five hard-of-hearing persons with athetoid-type cerebral palsy whose hearing losses were discovered between the ages of 19 to 30, and suggest measures to decrease their problems. Those studied had been forced to quit their jobs because of problems caused by their hearing disabilities. The following guidance was provided in order to decrease the vocational problems caused by being hard-of-hearing during the vocational training sessions: (1) Pointing out their mishearing in order to enable them to understand their disabilities; (2) Making them experience successful communication; (3) Making full use of different aids such as hearing aids, telephone adapters and so on; (4) Improving their communication manners. As a result, four clients made it possible to have measures taken for their disabilities and resulted in successful employments.
