- Ergonomic Case Study of a Crossing Collision at an Intersection Based on a 3-Dimensional Computer Visibility Simulation
抄録
This paper discussed the effectiveness of a visibility simulation method using 3-dimensional computer graphics (3D CG) to analyze the causes of crossing collision and to propose an optimal solution. Crossing collisions occur partly because of the poor quality of visual environment at intersections which consist of direct visibility and indirect visibility provided by traffic convex mirrors. The authors assessed the indirect visibility and also proposed the optimal solution for installing mirror at an uncontrolled intersection where crossing collisions took place repeatedly. The result of the 3D CG simulations confirmed that blind areas in the mirror image were critical to crossing collisions and they could be reduced by a slight adjustment of the position and angle of the mirror. Road administrators can surely improve the visual environment at intersections with optimal visible and blind distance along the crossing road based on the results. In conclusion, the optimal conditions on installation of mirrors as preventive measures can be assured by the objective method and the systematic analysis of traffic accidents could be carried out more precisely and efficiently.
