We reported a case of 29 years old female who has become HBV carrier state after receving a large amount of HBV containing blood by transfusion for the postoperative massive bleeding. Seven weeks after the transfusion, a transient elevation of serum transaminase without a change in IgM anti-HBc titer was noted. The second elevation of transaminase was acknowledged 8 months after the transfusion which accompained the with elevation of IgM anti-HBc.<BR>HBsAg and HBeAg became positive immediately after the transfusion and remained positive for more than 2 years, and total anti-HBc continued to be increased in the titer, suggesting the persistent infection of HBV. In addition to these findings, anti-HTLV-I became positive after the transfusion. It is suggested that superinfection of hepatitis non-A, non-B virus and/or HTLV-I gave some influence on HBV infection and lead to a HBV carrier state.
